Integrated Digital Engineering Environment for PPE Development (IDEEP)
This is an STTR Phase I and Phase II program sponsored by the Office of Naval Research, with Dr. Zhiqing Cheng as the principal investigator and Dr. Feng Zhu from Johns Hopkins University as the academic collaborator. In this program, the Innovision team has been developing a software system that creates an integrated digital environment for personal protective equipment development. IDEEP enables a seamless digital process for PPE development, including initial design, virtual prototyping, virtual testing, design optimization, decision making, and performance assessment/certification. With the support of novel data-driven surrogate modeling and machine learning algorithms, IDEEP can overcome the issues associated with traditional design process, significantly shorten PPE design cycle, and substantially improve its performance. In addition, the utilization of advanced human body models and digital twins provides a real-time, high fidelity virtual environment to evaluate the design results. It is transferable and scalable, as it can be used for other human centered product development and scaled up for commercials.
